Emergency!

Pook is fine. But today, after our Memorial Day road trips to Indianapolis and Chicago Pook had to go the Emergency Room. Yesterday, while her parents were pigging out on barbeque, Pook was not feeling well. She slept more than usual and was overall just kinda fussy. We chalked it up to teething. However, by this morning baby girl was hot! It was about 95 degrees outside and Pook was hotter than that. Her head, hands, and entire body was giving off mad heat. I took her underarm temp and it was about 100.7. Enough to make me worry and call the doctor to see if he could get her in. They couldn't see her until four thirty pm. So of course this newmommy tried to play it cool but around noon I couldn't take it- guilt got the best of me. I mean, what if something was really really really wrong? We went to the Emergency room and they took her temp. (not the nice way) and she was 103.5. After that, there was silence and a whole lotta what ifs? In that moment you prepare to give your entire self, if that is what it takes to make baby better. And, they the hospital staff don't explain nothing to you. They measured this and that on Pook without telling me anything. So I asked lots of questions and didn't mind getting in the way. Turns out its an ear infection. This would be her second ear infection. The first time she didn't fever, she just wouldn't sleep through the night. This time it was different. I'm not convince though that is what it really is- they said her ear looked "kinda" red. I don't know if "kinda red" causes such high temps.

Not to mention Pook is seriously teething. And also extremely constipated.

So today I didn't do anything but hold and rock and sing to Pook. They gave her some advil and a shot full of something that actually had her high, for real by the time we left. This evening she was almost back to her old self, still a little giggly.

So what an eventful day. These are the kinda of mothering days I can do without. But on the ride to the hospital I thought that this is the stuff newmommyhood is made of. I will never not worry, I will never not do all that I can, I will never not be ready to give it all, if that's what my baby needs.

Please send light and positive energy to Pook!!
