Toddle, toddler
Pook is really a toddler now. She does toddling things- like she loves the garbage can and the toilet. She also likes to rearrange everything in the house (maybe she's an interior designer?). She loves to play with all of my cds and pretty much would love it if I would leave them all on the floor for her amusement. She prefers to take her bib off when eating and after each meal pushes all the food off her high chair to the floor to show that she's done. She has toddler tantrums so she has had much practice throwing her back out.
But there are some wonderful things about toddlerhood too. She is associating things like the washcloth goes in the bath tub. She knows when she sees the comb and brush her hair is to be combed. She understands "give me a kiss" and if she decides will plant a big sloppy one on your cheek. She hands me (or throws at me) books to read to her. She is gaining language and can say "baby" "mama" "dada". She knows and practices baby sign for more (especially when she wants more food). She's a comedian (intentionally farted on one of the babies at daycare and cracked up!). She loves to dance to music.
So its getting really fun around these parts. I can see her "learning" things now and really trying to do new things. Like, we've started playing the drums and she gets a kick out of that. Also, she is picking up what singing is- I sing the ABC's and she's trying to sing them with me so I've moved on to some songs that I really want her to know. I also realized that now is the time to teach her how to read. Then I woke up one night in a panic because although I have a phd I wasn't sure if I knew how to teach her to read. I called Christina, my friend in Education and she assured me that all I need to do is read to her (A LOT). She suggested that if I want to get fancy all I had to do was point to the words as we read the story. I can do that!
