Christmas in Savoy

Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanza:)

Whoa- its almost here, about two hours until Christmas Eve. I'm leaving for the south suburbs tomorrow sans Pook. She is spending Christmas with her dad in Savoy. She will promptly return to the south suburbs to open up her gifts during Kwanza so we are covered. Some were surprised to find out that I will be traveling to the 'burbs for the very first time without Pook and during Christmas no less. Her dad claims that I said we would rotate every other Christmas. I don't know about that, but this Christmas I feel totally obliged to let him have his way. I've been threatening to move (for work) as far as California and I feel like this is the least I can do. Plus, as my mom says it really no big deal- Christmas is every day in our lives. right.

I had you going for a minute. I guess I should tell you the real reason I don't mind Pook's Christmas with daddy (beside the obvious- he is her dad) I"M TIRED AS ALL GET OUT (H-E- double hockey sticks). I can't say enough about how stressful the academic job market is. I am perfectly content to roll to my mama and daddy's house and become their baby girl again. Yup. I will spend the holidays in old funky sweats, baking chocolate desserts (without baby interuptions), and enjoy my mama's cookin until I'm way beyond full. I'm sure we will have at least five cases (no exaggeration) of Pepsi so I will even take the liberty to indulge in a few merry rum and cokes. Then I will perfectly pass out or go to the MOVIES (I haven't been to the movies since Pook's been born) to see the much anticipated DREAMGIRLS. A couple of days off of mommy duty is the perfect holiday gift for this single overworked and highly stressed (and blessed) mama.

And for reasons I already mentioned (TIRED) I didn't do holiday greeting cards this year nor did I do any shopping. Okay that is a lie. I shopped a little. But, yes very little. The plan is not to raise Pook to buy into this materialist holiday. Like every other good Black kid- Pook will know that its only after the 26th will this mommy shop the sale's rack until her heart is content.

Wishing you all peace, joy, and good rest and relaxation this year and the next!!

Oh what about Pook you ask?

Right.

So Pook still has this rash thingy on her face and legs. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse or any better. I thought it was scabies but it doesn't seem that bad. Maybe its an allergic reaction to some food she ate lately- vanilla soy milik? I doubt it. Merlot pasta with mozzarella and oregano? Maybe. Hopefully it will disappear soon. I want to take pictures- we are so overdue. Beside the rash Pook is her usual self-an avid reader. Just today she picked up a book and started reading it- for real ya'll. I mean that's how I interpreted it but I guess you could also make the argument that she memorized it. Whatever! All I know is she picked up "Bright Eyes, Brown Skin" and read it! She said "Bright eyes, Brown SKin".... and went on for at least two pages. In all honesty I think it is memorized because she reads it just like I read it to her- same inflection. Nonetheless Genuis. The doctor said babies are expected to have 20 words by 18 months- Pook is well ahead of the curve.

Pook says thank you Zenzele for the Kwanzaa gifts! I must confess however, that Pook still doesn't get the concept of a gift. The two fabulously wrapped packages sat on the floor for more than two hours tempting me more than Pook. I had to begin the process of unwrapping and then Pook became interested. She still let me do most of it. She definitely was all about the groovy girl and baby toy packaged inside. Then played with the box.
