Got Hands?

So Pook has had language for awhile now. She is saying Dadadadada in all kinds of combinations. She is flirting with hi and bye and sort of waving her hands. Well, actually she just sticks her arm straight out in front of her.

She is amazed with her hands. She also studies her fingers. The way she gazes at the wonders of her hands and fingers made me grateful for my own. I hadn't really thought about the miracle of hands and fingers until Pook made me really think about them. I mean we use our hands and fingers all the time, and very rarely do I count the use of all my digits as a blessing. Until now. Thank you God for hands and fingers!!

Pook is not crawling. I repeat, Pook is eight months and not crawling. Some people accuse me of spoiling her so because she doesn't get enough floor time (they say) she won't crawl. But, I know my baby. She's ahead of the curve and will go straight to walking- at least this my prediction. And she loves to stand! As a matter of fact if you stand her up and she holds on to the edge of whatever (like her crib, or little gym) she will cry if you take her away. Pook's first love at the moment is standing! I am the proud mother of a little activist who always prefers to take a STAND. Go Pook!

What else is she doing at eight months? Well she knows her name, Maya Sanaa. Thanks to the inspiration gained from the movie Akeelah and Bee (go see it right now) she loves when I spell her name. She ALWAYS smiles when I cheer MA-YA-SA-NA-A (this is the way I plan to teach her to spell her first name). She also loves our good morning song (yes, that I sing every morning).

Pook's easter picture was so cute that the studio wanted to enter it into a contest. Of course, first I had to sign a consent form saying they owe me nothing if she actually wins. It's the chubby cheeks really, that everyone falls in love with. So far she hasn't refused one food that we've given her. At the moment, her favorite is strawberries. And she's a big girl, already wearing 12 months.

Stay tuned for more updates!
(we miss you Akilah- my cousin currently living in mongolia)

Well, Maya Sanaa took her first plane ride to El Paso, TX! We visited grandad Andrew and grandma Barbara. I was such a nervous wreck of a newmommy. I had everything just in case, Pook was one of those screaming babies you hate to sit by: some food, toys, a teether, and course Benedryl. BUT, my daughter was perfect on the plane ride. She slept most the way there and back. I thought she would be interested in looking out the window, but not so much.

Once in El Paso, Pook saw mountains for the first time. Beautiful. We went for early morning and evening walks. Since it was so hot, Pook sported her summer fashions and was top model ready!! Everyone spoke spanish to her, and her name in El Paso was "preciosa". I agree:)

We also went to Mexico! Pook is worldwide (well almost). She didn't enjoy the loud marachi band but she did enjoy the advocados (on the fly snack). We weren't carded as we crossed the border, and fortunately we didn't have to cross a fence. Can you believe the minutemen?

So being in the desert was great for my midwestern self and family. We enjoyed time with the family and eating some good ole Texas Barbque. Pook took it all in stride and was all in all a great travel buddy!
