these of course are books that Pook must read daily. Reading is definitely Pook's favorite past time. She reads to herself and she reads out loud but mostly she wants me to read to her.
And sometimes I don't feel like it. But you can't not read to your children. I mean the guilt that washes over me won't let me deny a request- although I have tried. She cries. I'm like right...being denied being read to is an injustice is the world.
So i read to Pook and she is very happy.
Just to keep me interested I've begun asking Pook questions about the book, like Pook where is the baby? and she will point to the baby drawn by the illustrator. Then I get more advanced asking where is the butterfly (a word she practices daily) but Kadir Nelson has drawn the butterfly so small yet beautiful, Pook doesn't always find it.
Then I think, I hope this will be Pook for a long time. An avid reader. She enjoys reading... so maybe she will enjoy storytelling.. and acting.. and we can make up stories and act them out like children in Vivian Paley's classroom. Cuz now that I think about it, you can change the world one story at a time. But Pook already knew that.
